EP. I think this can kind of qualify as an EP as at 12 minutes it is actually longer than more than a few EPs I have. But it is only one track.
So you decide. I just wanted to give it a short review.
The sound of a distant storm heard from some subterranean shelter? The slow awakening melody that gradually begins to sparkle with soft lights. It rises and the cosmic atmosphere of passing sounds, bubbling voids being birthed and fading, the pulsing dark rhythm of the synth….
It hovers here on the edge of dungeon synth and that old Berlin electronica, the pulsing of that Tangerine Dream sound, with a veneer of the modern synthwave. The layering, the ebb and flow is superb but more importantly the atmosphere and the storytelling is absolutely top notch. Slowly it opens up, shadows receding for the glory of… something…to be revealed. And it moves, relentlessly but with surety. It is strange but there is not simply grandeur here, but a sense of awe and size and the more that you see, the more fear becomes curiously irrelevant as you are not seen but whatever this is, is surely to be worshipped.
It is Emperor you know has done terrible, indescribable things stands over you and all you feel is awe and the need to…follow. The worship. To bask in that magnificence.
And so another zealot is made, another soul is lots. Not through horror or torture or lies but simply by its glory and presence.
And onwards, fillwed with its glory, you walk into the new world as the music reaches its crescendo.
Now for one twelve minute track; that is one hell of a journey and a lot to think on.
